I originally created this community to serve as a gathering place for members of WomenGamers.com. who have LiveJournals, and also to serve as a reminder prompt to check the site for new material.

However, to be frank, it's just not seeing the kind of activity that I'd envisioned when I opened the doors. I'll retain some of the material for archival purposes, but I am closing the community. The RSS feed below fills the news need very nicely:

For WG members with LiveJournals who want to connect, there are numerous other female-oriented gaming communities on LiveJournal, and for your reading pleasure, there's always WomenGamers.com.

Thank you all for your participation!

Perceptions of comic book characters [15 Nov 2005|10:34am]

Hello! I am trying to do a little research, and would appreciate your participation in this poll.

Note: For the purposes of this analysis, we're excluding anime and Asian-influenced material. When I say comics, I am referring only to those produced by a Western mindset.

Hello there! [30 May 2005|02:38pm]

I stumbled across this place, looking for reviews and thoughts on World of Warcraft. Who knew there was a community for women gamers? Awesome.

I suppose I should introduce myself:
My name is Amanda. I'm 20 years old, from Massachusetts. I started text-based adventure games probably as soon as I could read (think 5-6 years old... yeah.) And aside from X-Box, I've owned just about every gaming system that's come out. I'm a fan of RPGs, mostly, and racing games, but recently I've been in the market for a good MMORPG. About a year ago, I got dragged into FFXI, which I consider one of the most expensive gaming mistakes I've ever made. (No offense to those of you who may play and enjoy... but when you play for three months, and your linkshell dissolves, leaving you with nobody to party with... it just stops being worth it.) Currently, I'm home from school for vacation, and until my job starts, I'm playing the new Paper Mario, since Ragnarok Online has also lost my interest.

Any suggestions? I have a fair amount of friends playing WoW (what gamer doesn't?) but I've heard mixed reviews about the experience. I suppose I'm still collecting information before I decide. In the meantime, I'm still looking for alternatives. Help?

Hey all [01 May 2005|11:14pm]

I get so tired of people who look at me like I'm crazy because I'm a gamer, so it's nice to see other women who play out here. I'm 35, a mom to one child who I homeschool, and we live in Fayetteville, AR. There are days when I feel very alone in this world. I guess I'm just really happy to see so many other women gamers in one place.

Has anyone played this game? I'm going to pick it up, because I hear that you can pretty play the game however you want. Not to mention the fact that you can blow up what ever you like. I really like explosions :-)

Hi everyone, I just joined at womengamers.com. Here's some of the games I've been playing:
Warcraft 3 (this is like the staple of my daily gaming ;)
C+C Generals Zero Hour
NwN & Shadows of Undrentide
Baldur's Gate & Icewind Dale
Battlefield 1942 & Vietnam
Medieval Total War

I was bored and searching around for some free rpgs to download (if anyone has any links please let me know!) and I found this on cnet: http://www.download.com/RPG-Toolkit-Development-System/3000-2121-6676850.html?tag=lst-0-3

anyone tried it?

Sacred - RPG [09 Aug 2004|08:26am]

Hi there,

I just started playing Sacred over the weekend. Are any of you playing this, and if so, are you playing online? I have only played single player and if you are a fan of Diablo II, you will love the game. I love riding the horse even if it slows down my archery.

I would love to know what you think and perhaps hook up for a game or two.

Cheers,
~Lisa

I'm greatly annoyed by the assumptions made by people... [07 Aug 2004|12:19pm]

So, I go to EB in the mall after work. This is the EB I go to on my lunch break all the time... with other employees from my company. In fact, I wear work related shirts a lot when I go in there (and I work for a game company). My husband had asked if I wanted to get Doom 3 tonight and I said, "Hell yeah I want Doom 3."

So, I go in and see they have copies and walk to the counter. Jim, someone who interviewed at Jason's work for a test job, is working. This guy has also seen me in there all the time. I just say, "Doom 3." He smiles and hands it to me and I hand him my check card. THEN HE LOOKS AT JASON and says, "Now, Jason, you're sure your system will run this right."

Um, hello? Is Jason buying the game? No. *I* asked for it. I say, "Um, this is for me. And I can assure you my system is definitely capable of running this game considering I'm a compatibility tech by trade and love PC hardware." I must have looked pretty indignant and annoyed at his assumption I was buying this for Jason because a look of shock came over his face as he either realized his folly or tried to absorb the fact that a girl was buying a relatively violent game. Jason responded, "No, this is for her. She's the FPS nut. I prefer strategy games."

He should just consider himself lucky I'm short and wouldn't have been able to reach him over that counter if I'd wanted to.

That's right, little man. I like to shoot people and blow sh*t up.

Now I've read about a great RPG that should be out in Japan allready (Venus & Braves) and I was wondering if any of you have played it or know if it's coming to europe anytime...
